"As I walked the dark halls row upon row of books called to me in hushed whispers, daring me to read them. I quickened my pace and didn't look back.
I pity the unwary who stopped to see, for once a good story has you, it'll never let you go." |
Welcome to The Dark Library. This site is a web site devoted just to short stories and related texts I have written. The ultimate vanity you might say, but I hope that in reading these stories, you will derive some entertainment and interest. Enjoy.

Stories
- "The Modern Vampire" (14th June 2000)
- My first story. Vampire life in the 20th century.
- "Fascination" (27 July 2000)
- Pleasant conversation over dinner in a fancy restaurant. But slightly odd company of the fanged kind, with a history told in flashback.
- "Play Little Kitty" (23 July 2000)
- One for cat lovers everywhere - or is that lovers of cats?
- "The Meeting Of The Four" (2 August 2000)
- How much life is there in the forest, and how much description? I aimed for flowing words and ended up bolting a story on too...
- "With Wings Of Beauty And Death" (7 September 2000)
- The sky goes red, beautiful people turn up, and there's plenty to drink. A successful party I think, but this tale is about the end of the world. Certainly my most popular story to date.
- "Feeding The Beast" (17 October 2000)
- Be wary around heavy machinery in this tale from the factory floor. Almost ripe for Halloween!
- "The Creature on The Outside" (23 October 2000)
- Another tale for the impending Halloween - mad scientists and monsters ahoy.
- "Journey's End" (6 November 2000)
- A scary story from behind the wheel. I know I won't view traffic in the same light again.
- "Dance Darkly, My Dear" (24 November 2000)
"Dance Darkly, My Dear" (2nd Edition) (7 December 2000)
- Even vampires want to have fun, and so we follow one living it up in the fanciest nightclub in town...
- "Life In Abundance" (19 January 2001)
- A story all about death, despite the title. Moving skeletons, an unpleasant vampire and a strange necromancer. Strictly late-night viewing.
- "Moonlit Love" (11 February 2001, edited 2 March 2001)
- Ah, Valentine's Day doth approach. And what could be sweeter than a tale of two young lovers? A first for the Dark Library - a story without any death!
- "The Difference of One" (6 May 2001)
- Sometimes great disasters produce the most unique viewpoints.
- "Breath in the Mirror" (6 May 2001)
- One girl wakes and walks in her world; and can you blame her?
- "A Creature Grotesque" (6 May 2001)
- They look so strange and weird... Aren't you scared?
- "Darrius" (On-site 4 July 2001) (From 20 February 2001)
- A slightly sci-fi vampire slayer tale; but who else will protect us from the vampires?
- "Will I Suffer When I Go?" (On-site 4 July 2001) (From 3 June 2001)
- How terrible it is to lose a loved one.
- "Addiction" (4 July 2001)
- Numbing, blinding, clutching, clawing, never-ending Addiction...
- "Never-ending Life" (4 July 2001)
- What is the end or the beginning to a vampire?
- "Rivers of Blood" (27 August 2001)
- Whoever shall know, what beauty may flow, from the blood of thy foe?
- "A Room With A View" (27 August 2001)
- A good view can add so much to a property, wouldn't you say?
- "One Thing" (27 August 2001)
- A story with a single purpose, a tale of obsession... Or perhaps, maybe it isn't.
- "Cut" (27 August 2001)
- A dark monologue about self-hurt. (Not based on personal experience.)
- "Beyond Pale" (18 September 2001)
- Even Death has a beginning.
- "What Dreams May Go" (27 October 2001)
- They can cause us such pain, but is it better to have no dreams?

Short Passages
- "The Ship and The Sea" (27 July 2000)
- A small descriptive passage capturing a life on the ocean wave.
- "The Defiant Soul" (28 August 2000)
- Inspired by an afternoon meeting at work. Unpleasant if you don't like fire.
- Weird Sign-off (28 August 2000)
- Exit text to an email I sent. This is no other description.
- "The Skeletal Necromancer" (Passage 1)
(9 September 2000)
- First passage from Skeletal Necromancer, a character from my still-in-production novel.
- "The Skeletal Intro" (12 September 2000)
- Another passage related to the Skeletal Necromancer. A potential novel intro, but with an oddly comic twist.
- "Dark Lady Vamp" (5 November 2000)
- The unfortunate end of a story we never see. Trying to conjure up a darker vamp, and trying to tell it from the victim's viewpoint.
- "Fishing" (7 November 2000)
- A strange one this, and vaguely comic. Imagine vampires, then ask yourself - would they have this hobby?
- "It Came From The Shadows It Was" (19 January 2001)
- A little slice of the dark. Don't turn out the lights!
- "Giving Blood" (6 May 2001)
- Never mention giving blood to a dark writer.
- "The Deceitful Hand" (27 August 2001)
- A short sad tale; a hint of perhaps forbidden love, or maybe just love that didn't last.
- "The Gift" (6 May 2001)
- A hint of sci-fi - cute mixed with ick. Would you want one of these?
- "Sleep" (18 September 2001)
- Why would you watch her sleep?
